Parents’ Role in Early Identification of Developmental Delays

 Parents are the first people to notice a child’s smile, cry, movement, and words. Long before a teacher or doctor meets a child, parents are already watching growth happen every day. This is why parents play the most important role in early identification of developmental delays. Early identification does not mean labeling a child. It means understanding the child early so the right support can begin at the right time. What Is Early Identification? Early identification means noticing signs of delay in a child’s development at an early age, usually from birth to five years. These signs may be related to speech, movement, learning, behavior, or social interaction. Parents do not diagnose. Their role is to observe, notice, and seek guidance when something feels different.
